Kenji Tomiki (1900-1979) was the first student of Morihei Ueshiba who received the 8th dan before 1940 when WWII began. This stunning result was achieved after 15 years of hard training in parallel with judo practice under Jigoro Kanos supervision who also evaluated Tomiki as the 8th dan.
