The founder of modern aikido Morihei Ueshiba (1883 1969) studied Daito-ryu from 1915 up to 1918 under the instruction of Sokaku Takeda. Before that he practiced some other kinds of martial arts: Tenshin shinyo-ryu, Kokushikan judo, etc. So by the time when Ueshiba came up to creating his own martial art style thereafter named aikido he had already mastered many types of warriors arts jujutsu, kenjutsu. Its up to Ueshiba that every aikido technique is based on the sword application principle.
